La station de ski Arizona Snowbowl a l’intention de commencer \u00e0 d\u00e9verser de la neige artificielle faite \u00e0 partir d’eau d’\u00e9gout recycl\u00e9e d\u00e8s novembre prochain.
\nLes photos et la carte ci-dessous indiquent l’avanc\u00e9e des travaux au 20 septembre dernier. Depuis, ils ont sans aucun doute continu\u00e9.
\nBien que les propri\u00e9taires de Snowbowl et leurs supporters aient toujours pr\u00e9tendu n’occuper qu’un pourcentage infime des Pics San Francisco, on peut voir sur la carte et la photo d’ensemble qu’ils bloquent en fait la quasi totalit\u00e9 de cette face du Pic Agassiz, le deuxi\u00e8me plus haut sommet. (On peut supposer que des plantes poussant \u00e0 cette altitude et avec cette exposition, ne se trouvent pas plus bas ou sur l’autre face, par exemple).
\nPour autant que j’ai pu voir, il n’est pas possible d’acc\u00e9der au Pic Agassiz par ce c\u00f4t\u00e9 – la route a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 interdite aux v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 partir du ch\u00e2let Agassiz lorsque la station de ski \u00e9tait ferm\u00e9e, et depuis qu’ils ont commenc\u00e9 les travaux, et que des gens sont all\u00e9s y protester, elle est \u00e9galement interdite aux pi\u00e9tons. L’acc\u00e8s est apparemment r\u00e9serv\u00e9e aux skieurs.
\nIl faut rappeler qu’Arizona Snowbowl n’est pas propri\u00e9taire du terrain, elle a un permis d’utilisation sp\u00e9cial d\u00e9livr\u00e9 par le Service des For\u00eats, en tant qu’il est aussi responsable des activit\u00e9s de loisirs dans les parcs nationaux qu’il contr\u00f4le.
\nLes Autochtones (“les Indiens”) n’osent plus s’y rendre, ils sont victimes d’intimidation. Pour eux, cet endroit est sacr\u00e9 et les Hommes et Femmes M\u00e9decine y cueillaient des plantes m\u00e9dicinales et y tenaient des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies. Pour ceux qui rejettent et m\u00e9prisent toute croyance religieuse, il faut rappeler que la libert\u00e9 religieuse est un principe de base garanti par la constitution am\u00e9ricaine, et qu’il s’agit donc l\u00e0 de racisme, de discrimination et de violation des Droits de l’Homme.<\/p>\n

\nThe photos and map below show the progression of the works per september 20th. Since then, they have undoubtedly gone further.
\nAlthough Snowbowl owners and their supporters always pointed out that they occupied only a very tiny percentage of the San Francisco Peaks, it is quite obvious on the map and the photo that, as a matter of fact, they block a whole side of the Agassiz Peak, the second highest top. (It can be assumed that plants growing at that altitude and orientation are not found lower or on the other side of the mountain, for instance).
\nFor as far as I could see, the Agassiz Peak cannot be accessed from this side, the road has always been closed to vehicles at the level of the Agassiz Lodge, since they started the works, and some people went there to protest, it is also closed for hikers. Access is apparently only for skiers.
\nIt has to be kept in mind that Snowbowl does not own that land, it only has a special use permit from the Forest Service, which is responsible for recreation activities in the National Parks.
\nNative Americans do not dare to go there anymore, as they are being intimidated. For them, the site is sacred, Medicine men and women went there to pick up plants and hold ceremonies. For those who reject and despise religious beliefs, it must be pointed out that religious freedom is a basic right guaranteed by the American Constitution, so that what is happening there is racism, discrimination and Human Rights violation.<\/p>\n

Le seul acc\u00e8s semble \u00eatre le t\u00e9l\u00e9si\u00e8ge Agassiz, qui n’est ouvert que quand la station de ski l’est aussi.<\/p>\n

The highest chairlift, and the “Grandview Terrace”, generally not accessible, it seems: the road is closed at the level of the Agassiz Lodge parking. The only access seems to be the chairlift, which apparently is only open when the ski resort is.<\/p>\n
